I understand many of us here are above draft age... but it's a general question.

There is going to be a very big push to bring back some form of a draft this year...and I am curious to get peoples thoughts.

i leave for basic january 16th. but if it wasn't a choice, if i did get drafted or my brother did then i think it would come as a shock, but i would suck it up and do what i needed to do... somebody's got to do it... as for my brother i think it would stink but i would be ok after a while... a long long long while...

I'm an Army Veteran, and I would serve again. I don't think every person is appropriate for the armed forces, but they could serve in another very useful capacity at home. As for women serving, I have known some top notch women in the service and they are doing a great job. I don't think enough women look at this as a career. They are missing the best thing ever. As for displacing women with kids, that is not a good thing. Some military couples can handle it but families are pretty fragile these days. I know several young men who have the attitude that the services aren't cool, but they'll mow lawns all day in the 100 degree heat. They have no idea of the camaraderie, fitness, training, leadership, and pride you can get in the military.

I would be extremely angry - I am almost to that age, and I have plenty of friends who are that age now. I don't think there's any way that they would reinstate the draft - I envision much resistance, and the country clearly isn't behind the war anyway. Midterm elections, anyone? Anyway, if the draft does end up being reinstated, I might just move to Canada.

I would do it..but the probability is about 98% chance to 2% that a draft will be reinstated in 07....not very probable.

I'm in Canada and I don't think we ever had a draft. There was some talk of it during the tail end of WWII but it never happened. I'd be a conscientious objector if I were drafted, which would be VERY unlikely as I'm a female in my thirties with diabetes.

I'de pretend to be retarded.....
I'de pretend to be anorexic, do anorexics get discharged from the military??
I'de cut my leg off
I'de take the plane ride to whatever country im supposed to be fightening in and then stage my own fake kidnapping by the enemy...then release myself a couple of months later after the war ends in to the loving arms of my family, then write a bs story about my capture and make millions of dollars

Do a service for the country, but its not right. . I want the troops home. I stand behind there dedication for the country , but I don't feel its right to force someone to go.

First of all- I would have to really be convinced that the wars our country fights are actually necessary. Cuz right now.. I would suddently develop an inner ear problem or something... We do not need to be in this war!

I feel it's a bad idea. The public has already expressed their views on this war and now more and more are against it (not against our troops...but about the outcome of it). Forcing people to go against their will would be devastating.
