I don't understand why homeless people don't apply for welfare, get housing, and find employment. Would someone please inform me.

To receive government support, a person must first have a place to send the money to.

Unfortunately, the individual who is homeless also is more often than not so severely mentally disabled that they are incapable of dealing with the system or live's challenges in general.

I know it is hard to understand, but we are talking about people that more often than not have extremely severe problems that prevent them from successfully cooperating with caseworkers trying to get them services.

How do you help a homeless person if:
1. You can't find them
2. They get thrown out of every shelter in the region for stealing, and being a danger to others
3. Don't want to go indoors
or
4. Have voices in their head that are yelling so loud that they can't hear or understand someone who is trying to talk to them?

HOMES FOR THE HOMELESS:

How much would it cost the taxpayers to rent some cheap motel rooms so they can take a shower, sleep in a nice bed once in a while (maybe more).

They would have an Address, Phone and clean clothing to look for a job and collect assistance checks.

Not to mention feeling like a HUMAN and not an Animal.

You could charge $2 per shower and $10 for an overnight stay.
(Free for those with no income)

The idea could probably become self-supporting quickly and spread to other places.

The Homeless People could organize this themselves.

Just get a group of people together and rent a cheap hotel room.

If we gave them a Place to Live and a TENT for Privacy, it would be like Camping out!

Not much to spend and would REDUCE CRIME too!

Why not???

If you are homeless, try to organize a group to share shelter, showers and addresses.

There are easy and simple solutions.

Best Wishes,
Stan P.

First of all you have to have an address to get anything, second, welfare is not handed to anyone who asks, you usually have to have dependants. You cannot be able bodied either. So if a person gets sick and is out of work for a while, has no savings, they could end up homeless.Housing takes a while because you're put on a waiting list, and to get employment with no phone or address is pretty hard.I've talked to some homeless people and some have just had bad things happen to put them there, others choose that life style because they find it adventurous or something,I'm not sure, just that they chose to live that way.

I've been homeless. It's not as simple as just going and applying for help. Many homeless people have mental illnesses that impede them in rational thinking. Others get caught up in alcohol and drugs, which perpetuates the cycle of homelessness. Still others fall between the cracks. Oftentimes, welfare is taken away the minute someone gets a job, makes a miniscule amount above the poverty line, and starts pulling their feet out of the mud to try to save up for items such as an apartment or car. It's a very touchy situation.

Some do and some do not.
Some homeless people are only homeless for a short time. Others are homeless because they choose to be; they are unwilling or unable to pay the price for having a home. I know several people who are or have been homeless and everyone is unique.
I know one young man who attended Harvard night school who lived in homeless shelters in Boston with his schizophrenic mother. All were our foster sons.

The homeless folks are the ones, along with the elderly, that should receive welfare but the sad truth is that there are plenty of able bodied people that can work but instead choose to milk the Govt, (that means you and I) because they are lazy butts.

In the proocess they screw it up for the one that really need it.

We waste lots funds on our welfare gadget via no longer monitoring the folk who use it. Why no longer video demonstrate the recipients extra suitable via assisting them get jobs or teach them to hold a job. we are in a position to handle this technique lots extra suitable. So specific the homeless must be entitled to welfare as long as they are monitored and knowledgeable to apply it properly. somewhat of giving welfare funds for years, deliver them to college and cut back them off after, say 2 years. which could save the gadget funds interior the long-term. Oh and why no longer provide up spending Trillions of dollars on a pointless conflict the place individuals are dying, and help some human beings stay!!

No, homeless people do not usually get welfare. Most of them are mentally ill people.

they usually don't know how, dont want to, or have access to the support systems (i.e. no address, no internet, no phone, no money to use a pay phone, no car, no way to get to the welfare office, mental difficulties)... those that do not have these problems and are poor & on welfare...and therefore, not homeless.
