Cold water for more than one reason.
Colorfastness will last longer in cold, hot water washes color out of clothes faster therefore forcing you to purchase more clothes.
Even your hairdresser will tell you when you dye your hair wash and rinse it in colder water so that the color will not so easily wash out.
And you will save on energy (the heating of the water).

Darks are usually washed in cold, while light-colored items can be washed warm or hot.
