NO (probably according to 95% of americans lol) sounds like he (the stinker) might be an atheist or something along those lines who doesn't believe in christianity or God. since christmas is celebrated as a christian holiday to celebrate jesus's birth. I am a christian so I love christmas or course but come on even if your not a christian what he did was very rude and ignorant. Even if you dont celebrate jesus's birth on christmas chewing your son out for his generousity of giving out a gift to those teens is just mean to me I mean come on use some common sense right?!? and cheer up! lol

No, you were not being rude. It might have been better if you had talked to the parents first, before giving such a gift. That way, you could have assessed the situation prior to having your son put his heart out there to be stomped on.
I don't know how familiar you are with this family, but, I typically ask parents first as they may have a problem with video games (or certain video games), or content in books or potential religious content of some gifts. I generally just ask first, even with my nephews & nieces - just to be sure the parents are cool with it.
I would say it's a hard lesson learned. You might talk to the Mom at a later date, apologize for any unintended offense & see if the gift is still allowable. It's up to you. I personally would not hold it against the rest of their family just because their dad is a drunk jerk.
You & your son's spirit of giving should be commended. Make sure he understands what a wonderful thing it was he tried to do and not to let this incident curb his enthusiasm.
Merry Christmas!

Ok .Your son did something nice but you have to go further .This is the best solution.Get over it.Next, if you really want to help, you have to help the whole family.Try to give everyone in the family some thing nice and tangible.I am sure you can do that.
The scenario you describe is what World Organisations experience. You cannot use a hot water kettle unless you get a source of water and electric power. You have to give all or nothing at all. There are heaps of doctors ready to serve but there are no hospitals. What do you say for that?
Help to the maximum.Your first sign of help identified what is really needed.
So carry on helping.

Gosh I would have at first said well you don't see any problem with getting totally wasted on God's day you jerk. BUT I don't have to tell you what your son did was 120% good and admirable. The truth is the old man probably didn't get his kids crap and did not like to see them happy about anything so your son being kind and spreading a little Christmas cheer made him look even more like the @ss that he is.
If those poor kids got nothing for christmas I really fear what their everyday life is like.

I dont think you were rude at all, I think {a} either the old man was hurt because he cant afford to give his kids these things and dont want anyone else doing because he feels it lowers what they think of him { although he just made their thoughts of him even worse} or {b} is just a lousy parent who doesnt even want his own kids happy or {c} doesnt want to pay the electricity bill that your PS2 will be burning up.
I dont know some people just dont know how to accept help with out being offended. I am sorry he did that to your son, you can always donate it to the local boys and girls club or vfw club and write it off as a tax write off.

No, you and yours did nothing wrong. To reach out to those less fortunate than yourselves is showing true holiday spirit.
If he were sober and had a logical reason for his kids not getting the old PlayStation 2 (like bad grades) then I might understand his problem.
From what you said, it sounds like the drunk was committing
psychological child abuse.
And it sounds like your child is growing up very well....Keep up the good work.

No you were not being rude. The Father was probably embarassed about his situation and in his drunken state he took it out on you. The point is that you and your son did a wonderful thing. The fact that he wanted to share his good fortune is a credit to you and the way you have raised him. Pat youself on the back and keep up the good work.
Merry Christmas

That was awesome of your son! You might want to keep an eye on those kids, make sure they're not being abused or anything. Thats horrible. Maybe you should invite the kids to church with you or something, let them know they are loved by God.

You did nothing wrong! That was a very generous, selfless act! The neighbor is unfortunately not a nice man but don't be discouraged. The ones who do not appreciate your kindness are the ones you should make every effort to be kind to.
He'll realize his selfishness eventually. Keep doing what you're doing! It sounds like you're raising a very responsible young man.
