gutenberg.org has a lot of stuff. sparknotes has most of the older books commonly assigned in high school, print.google.com has a lot of older books in full view (mostly scholarly stuff though), and various places have more specialized collections.

keep in mind it's very rare to find books published after 1926 for free because of copyright issues.
