Was a valid coupon but I forgot to tear off the date completely. Understand hefty fine of S$20K or even imprisonment. Would I be summoned to court to defend myself? What can I do to avoid being fined?

No worries man~ I'm driving an OPC too and was booked for almost the same issue... Just admit that you've over looked it cause you're rushing. Make clear you know the rules clearly and humblely and " beg " for a light sentance... Got a 1K fine man~ sianz...

Take it as a lessoned learnt and nxt time... tear it cleanly... A fine is unavoidable... lightest I've hear of was $500.

And to the 2 previous replys... Are you sure you're a singaporean or have u really read thispoor dudes case???

Relax man~ it'll take mths b4 u'll need to attend the court session... Save up in the mean time~

Cheers.

Is sounds as if you have ignored the compound fine that was issued to you. A compound fine is the small one that you can pay and the whole matter is closed. If you refuse to respond to that, the Traffic Police will assume you want to dispute the fine and so you'll have to go down to their offices and discuss it with them. If at this point, you can't convince them that you made an innocent mistake and you don't want to pay for the compound fine, the matter will be referred to court. That's when you'll need a lawyer to argue your case. You may win but if you don't, that's when the hefty fines come in.

So for a parking coupon issue, it's best to just pay the fine. It's not worth the lawyer's fees to fight it out in court, even if you're in the right.

Firstly, panic not! I doubt you are Singaporean because a fine of 20K for not displaying a correct car park coupon has NEVER been heard of.

Secondly, you can write in to explain that you didn't intend to cheat and that it was an innocent mistake because if you did, you wouldn't have displayed the coupon to begin with.

Worse come to worse, you can just accept that you have to pay a price for your carelessness and it will be a small fine from S$6 to S$30, definitely NOT 20K.

It is an offence to drive an off-peak car outside the prescribed hours without a supplementary licence (a $20 day permit) or with an invalid supplementary licence. Tampering with a supplementary licence is the most serious offence.

The punishment for this is a fine of up to $10,000 for first-timers. Repeat offenders can be fined up to $20,000, jailed up to 12 months, or both. Those who drive without a supplementary licence or an invalid one can be fined up to $5,000.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said hefty penalties were necessary because of the $17,000 tax cut which off-peak car owners enjoy.

This offence is NOT COMPOUNDABLE! You will be charged in court, normally is at court 21. You can try to write to LTA and ask for lenciency, but on statistic, most cases of similiar offence was fined.
