is your oscar 2.5 inches or feet....if it is in inches, i say they would be around .... 5 months.... if you want to breed.... you can wait until they are the size of your palm or bigger.... it will take at least two years for them to get as big as your palm...

Oscars will not breed until sexually mature, which is typically around 1.5-2 years old. By then they will be 6+ inches in size.

A pair will need at least a 90+ gallon tank to live in, and preferably larger, especially if you want to try to spawn them.

2.5" oscar is likely around 6 months old.

If you only have one fish and are going to try to add another one later to spawn them, you are not going to have an easy road to success. You need to get 5-6 young and raise them together in order to get a pair to form a bond strong enough to spawn. You also will need a tank of about 125 gallons for the adult pair to spawn in. A 55 gallon is sufficient for one adult to live in.

They do not spawn until they are adults (at around 10-12 inches) and then only if the fish of the opposite sex with them is as big, strong and agressive as they are. With oscars, it is almost impossible to tell the difference in the sexes (another reason to buy 6 small ones) without looking at the genital orifices of the fish. So trying to add a fish of the opposite sex later is doubly difficult. Then they will test each other and if one is just a little bit weaker, the more agressive one will bully it to death. In the wild, the weaker one would leave the area.

They are very territorial and if one has been in a tank for more than a week or so it will try to kill any new fish added later. My advice would be to take the one you have back to the store and purchase 6 new ones if you are serious about breeding them.

They are great fish and each one has his own personality. You can train them to take food from your fingers and let you touch them. I had 5 at one time in a 125 and fed them a good high protein (45%) diet of dog food pellets. Don't start them on live feeder fish because of the parasites and diseases that the feeder fish can bring into your tank.

sure, they are the same species. even regardless of the indisputable fact that it particularly is like breeding canines of two diverse colorations. You in no way understand what you will get, different than that's going to be a Mutt. you in all risk wont get albino offspring, because of the fact the gene is recessive, even regardless of the indisputable fact that it ought to take place returned in destiny era. Makes it complicated to foretell what destiny offspring would be if the genetics are muddled up. in case you will visit the hardship of breeding Oscars, get 2 fish of the same form. That way the offspring additionally must have the same features and could additionally breed genuine sooner or later. Ian

You will be able to tell when their tubes drop down, they are down near the tail...usually they have to be about as big as your hand, then they will sometimes fight each other, especially the female. You may even have to separate them. You should search this or get a book about breeding Oscars.
