I find it rather annoying that publishers feel the need to change and update classic stories, the books are classics for a reason, leave them alone. Does this annoy anyone else?

I agree, classics should be left alone. But I also think that many great works have been overlooked. Take John Clare (1793-1864) for example. Great poet, could have been a classic, but had an unfortunate life.

Yes. Very much. Also re-makes of movies often change them. Re-makes of songs may change the tempo and meter & sometimes even the melody. Changing them by jazzing them up.

I agree. The classics are classic because of the original words/music/whatever. And should NOT be tampered with.

get used it I smell more of it we have a generation that is coming into its own that a great % of is brain dead and can't find anything original to do hence the so-called reality programs/trash the population seems to had never learned about originality obly cloning and ripping off ideas.... so expect some money hunrgy fools to decide that everything needs to be updated across the board and unfortunately there will be people lined up with money in hand to buy them and put them on their shevles because they just look so literary that way

One could argue that much of Shakespeare is just revision of classic stories. Romeo and Juliet --> Tristan and Isolde --> some earlier roman story (can't recall the name).

I'm not in favor of it, but sometimes a new perspective on an old story is interesting.

Yes I hate the fact that they feel the need to rewrite books that are truly great just how they are.
