Who is really the "Special Interest" here? The big tobacco firms or these special interest group, who have gone from state to state encouraging smoking bans, and making huge profit off it also. I ask you, "When do the people win?" This is a war with special interest groups and big tobacco. Neither could care less about our well being. Neither tell the truth, why should they? More money to line thier pockets. So, I guess my question for the boards. When do the average citizen win while these two are battling it out for profit?

I'm not sure if the 'average citizen' can win when pitted against big business, corporate America. However, in the particular instance you've mentioned, I consider myself a 'winner' when I'm in the States simply because I don't smoke. (If I did, I would not be a winner in this case.) Unfortunately, you can never please everyone and when you draw a line that separates 'average citizens' into 2 opposing categories, many 'average citizens' will lose while the rest win. As far as who wants my money, I do not contribute either to 'pro-smoking' or 'anti-smoking' causes, so I don't feel too fooled by either side.

Another thing- I agree with you that very few people/groups who at all use media, fliers, statistics tell 'the truth'. All statistics can be manipulated to show exactly what the smart pollster wants. I don't put a lot into any of those things. The statement "Numbers don't lie" is not really true.

(As far as smoking goes, in Europe (especially the part where I live) there is almost no provision or respect for those of who don't smoke, so it's the other way around. And, your average smoker here shows very little regard for anyone else.)

Sadly, you don't win unless you are big.(Business, that is)
