I'm a man and I got a vest with a zipper on the left for X-Mas. All the clothes in my wardroe have the zipper on the right. Does this mean its a laddies vest or are can zippers go on either side?

I don't think it matters.
I just looked at 4 of my hoodies and 3 have the zipper on the right while one has it on the left.

I'm a feminine young woman, I don't shop in the mens' section.

The zipper is on the right: http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product.jsp?rcid=clearance&scid=cat90062&sscid=cat530003&ssscid=cat660002&navroot=clearance&productId=2492_2492

Lol. Yes it is a ladies vest. In the old days women would dress their men. Hence the reversal of the buttons and zippers.

It's a ladies vest, but if it looks good wear it anyway...we're not going to go around inspecting zippers to find out if you bought a mens or ladies vest. ;0 )

yes, it a women's garment, but i don't think it really matters anymore. it was a big thing 90's,10's,and 20's of the last century. but gender dress has changed since then.
