PMC (Precious Metal Clay) is real silver in a binder that's similar to polymer clay. However, it must be heated in a kiln or with a torch to cure, then after rubbing the cured surface, it will be completely silver (polymer clays on the other hand are cured in a home oven at only about 275 degrees). Another brand of this type of "metal clay" is Art Clay Silver.

Polymer clay (Sculpey is one brand, and comes in 3 versions) is similar in feel and the way its treated so I'd recommed practicing with a polymer clay rather than Play Doh for sure, but the metal clays are more like air-dry clays in that they'll dry out while working with them (not true of polymer clays) so perhaps Creative Paperclay or Makin's clay would be more similar... for both those you'll need to keep covering them and work fairly quickly so they won't dry out.

There's more info on metal clays and how to handle and cure them on this page, if you want to check it out:

Hi...i don't have the answer, but other artists over at the Bead & Button Forums will be able to advise you and answer your questions. There's even a special section for Metal Clay:

You do need an ID to post and respond to questions but not to browse around.....so check it out. Tons of great information over there..check it out.
