In the book "Mere Christianity," C.S. Lewis writes that if you search for truth, you may find truth and comfort in the end. But if you search for comfort, you will find neither.
think about that a while

What difference does it make? You will, in good time, find out (or not)? No one knows, it is all a guess or theory, or belief. You are assuming you can't make the most of your days if you believe in an afterlife (or is it the other way around?). You are also assuming that if there is an afterlife that you are "right" and win - ha ha you could be part right and lose. You should be able to make the most of your life either way - but ask yourself why you believe what you do. Is it just because you were brainwashed as a child by parents and society? Not questioning is called by some faith - by others ignorance. If you are happy with your beliefs, live them. If not, I suggest questioning. In the end, it is a countdown either way.

It's impossible to know. I should say "impossible" because nothing is.
But its likely we WILL NEVER know until we die.
Why do we search for The meaning of life, or if Santa is real, or if their is god, or if there is a after life?
The meaning o life might take a lifetime to discover, or might take a day, it might be miles away, or right under your nose.
Santa is real, he doesn't not bring preseNTs to our house, but just because he is nt human doesn't mean he isn't real. He lives and dominates children's imaginations, I can't see anything more real then that. Believing is seeing.
Is their a god? Why use science, why ponder on this UN answerable ques ion?I believe in god or a higher power. So he is there, fully with me. To bud dist, or atheist he may not be there. God or any higher power is real because we are all inducible unique people who need something/someone to live for. Some have only god/Buddha some have that and their family, and friends.
And of course your question. Is there an after life? Why not wait and see, spend days, lifetime, minutes wasted on a question that has no answer until we die and face it before us. Do me a favor friend and put your hand on your heart, that beautiful beat is your life ticking away. Don';t waste a beat thinking about if there is a after life, or Santa, or god. Dint comprehend Circe to everything or religion. believe what you want to believe, and let the imagination be the limit.

The question seeks to challenge the basis , justifying , reasoning , and placing the rationale for prioritizing the efforts wasted towards such a pursuit...
Well, the inner life of a person does not in any way hinder the performance, effective functioning in handling the material aspect of life.
No harm in keeping an open mind to this possibility of past and future lives. The only key to be used is self-awareness. And, in fact, this self-awareness at enhanced levels supplements the handling of material aspect of life at peak of efficiency, so nothing to lose really.

I would want to know - knowledge is always better than ignorance, in my book. But not knowing is fine, because it's logically impossible to know... not knowing is natural and right, it's god's will, it's the nature of the universe.
The countdown is a GOOD thing - it forces you to appreciate what you've got. The lack of an afterlife (at least, one experienced by the same personal individual self we feel we are as human beings) seems logically inevitable to me, and the idea of an afterlife could be seen as an excuse to avoid facing the value of every instant, to pretend we could be somehow above living in this ultimately holy present moment.

Hmm, as a lot of people are not answering the question that is actually being asked.... Well, I personally would rather NOT know if there isn't. Not that I'm a great believer anyway, but hey, got to have some hope lol.

You can never truly know the answer to this question. That is unless you are summoned into this world again to be a human. To live is to die, and to die could possibly be to live again in the after-life. There are two fears that are prominant withing human life. The fear or death and the fear of eternal life. Most choose one or the other. I have chosen the fear of eternal life. I fear there not being an afterlife.

If you have faith in God then you belive in the life after death.
Even those with faith really can't begin to know what in store for us. Creation & the universe is so far beyond human understand that we can't even guess what it is.
I had a near death experience a few years ago. I was traveling in the white light. The was no pain, no fear, not one human emotion.
This feeling can't begin to be duplicated on any human experience.
We need to make the best of our days whether or not we believe in a life after death.

I definitely would NOT want to know if there isn't an afterlife. The hope that there is an afterlife where we all meet up again and there are no problems, worries, pain etc. is what keeps me going some days. Nope, definitely wouldn't want to know. I'd rather believe and have hope any day.

Ignorance isn't bliss if you know you're ignorant. If I had the opportunity to know, I'd want to know. It's hard to be uncertain. On one hand, you could live your life according to strict rules and regulations, live as lower being than your god, and be just another happy sheep for nearly 100 years, only to die and have unknowingly wasted your short time. On the other hand, you could live your 100-ish years as your own god, only to find yourself on fire for eternity after death..or reincarnated into a cat or something..

I don't want to know one way or the other. I want to live each day as if it were my last. Hopefully when my time comes to pass on I have done something that has made a difference in this world.
