If I download songs from somewhere else other than ITunes, do I still have to pay to get them into the Itunes library and get them on the Nano?

Only if you buy the song from the iTunes store. If you rip them from cds or get them from your computer, then it's free. Just go into the folder that the song is in and double click. It should open it up in the iTunes Library.

that gets on my nerves!!! every body thinks that you have to use i tunes to get songs on your ipod. you can just use ares or limewire and you can download any song, movie, picture, whatever. there is a risk of a virus. ive been using ares for a long time.

Yes you do. But if you want songs for free, you can go to www.limewire.com to get them. :D
