It's had to single out just one. Phil Simms is not given the credit he deserves. He put up a 4000 yard season (1985) but understood that running more gave his team the btter chance to win. While I feel people respect Simms as a competitor, I don't know that they give him his due respect as a pure quarterback.

John Brodie is another forgotten man. He quarterback the 49ers shortly after Y.A. Tittle and retired about seven years before Montana. He led the Niners to playoffs only to lose some classic games to the great Cowboy teams of that time. He hooked up with Gene Washington a lot.

Jim Hart of the St. Louis Cardinals had an excellent career, but never won a playoff game. He ran Dan Coryell's offense before Dan Fouts did.

Danny White of Dallas. He actually played well but never won a championship in Dallas, something Cowboys fans could never forgive him for. He wasn't Roger Staubach and the truth is he didn't have as good a team around him as Staubach had.

Steve Grogan of the Patriots. He was a big reason the Pats went from laughing stock to playoff team (when making the playoffs meant something). If not for a bad call, he might have beaten the great Raider team of the mid 1970's in the playoffs.

Ken Anderson of the Bengals was a very good quarterback for many years in the 1970's and finally got his Bengals to the Super Bowl only to lose to the 49ers and Joe Montana. Oddly enough he would have been perfect in Bill Walsh's offense. He had great mobility and an accurate arm.
