I should rephrase. How uncommon is it to see an abstinent female teenager and would smart adult men prefer their wives abstinent until the man and woman are married?

Thanks to everyone. I like most of these answers so I'm leaving the best answer to a vote. BTW, I am a hard core Christian with an abstinent, hard core Christian boyfriend. Thanks again and Merry Christmas!

Hey Lady. I want to say I am proud of you for your stance on being abstinent with good christian values.

We do not see enough of that anymore.

Course, you two being hard core Christians know that God intended sex to be between a man and his wife and it is not a matter of waiting for the right moment at which time you feel good about yourself cause unless your married it's called adultery..

The biggest problem with abortion that follows the results of a lot of the answers here are, People who are not married, having sex, becoming pregnant, not wanting the responsibility of what they have done and choose to rid themselves of that God given life, use abortion as birth control, which God hates.
.
I will say hang in there, it does garner respect and God will honor you as the Christian's you are for keeping yourself for the right time. Amen to that.

I don't know if I am a pervert but I will try. It all depends how you value things. When it comes to sex, it is important that one has the mentality and matureness to handle the consequences. Abstinence is important when you have doubts and is uneasy about having sex. If you are more worried about how people perceive you, then it is a different issue. It really depends on which culture you are in. I am pretty young, but personally, when I have a kid in the future, I don't want her to have sex when she is only 17 or younger. All parents want to protect their daughters/sons from being "ruined" both physically or mentally. It doesn't really mean that having sex with a guy = being ruined, but there is a higher chance that an unprepared teen would be suffering from the consequences not known at the time. Of course, some of my friends (20-22 years old) are more conservative than others: some regard sex as absolutely "no-no" while some are more liberate about that. Hope this helps.

I think it is important. I have a 3 year old daughter and hope she has friends like you when she gets into high school age.

I read a study that says human brains dont develop judgment and decision making skills until they are 25 years old (on average). Doing something to go along with the crowd is not wise but mny do it and have seriously negative consequences. I have several female friends that had abortions and regretted it every day thereafter. I have other friends that had babies as teenagers and missed out on their young adulthood. I read about aids and other STDs but have no personal knowledge but this isn't something people tend to share. Abstinence is the best choice. There's plenty of time for that stuff later.

I went all through high school without ever having sex. In fact, I never saw a penis until after I graduated. I had no problem whatsoever with staying abstinent, because I was extremely shy around guys. I had boyfriends, and I kissed and made out, but that was as far as I would go. I don't know how that made my boyfriends of the time feel, but I had a reputation for being a "good" girl.

How admired an abstinent female teenager is depends on your culture and society. It's expected of a Muslim girl, and you might get stoned or beheaded if you're not in some localities. Some Christian girls wear a ring to flaunt their abstinence. Some non-religious types stay abstinent because they don't want a baby or an STD, and don't give a flip whether anybody admires it or not. In my family are five sisters. Only one is married, and she prays every night her two daughters don't get pregnant or infected. Of the other four, one won't say whether she ever indulged because she doesn't think it's our business. One vowed she wouldn't be a virgin by her fortieth birthday and managed to pick the biggest loser in the world to have an affair with. She spent months sweating over AIDS tests and thanking God she didn't get pregnant. Two of us are heading for fifty with our maidenheads intact, and we're doing just fine, thank you. No regrets over ruinous relationships, no babies to struggle to raise single-handed, and definitely no diseases to worry about. Interesting to discover cervical cancer is caused by an STD, huh? Don't abstain because you want to be admired. Do good deeds if you want admiration. Abstain because you care about your health.

I admire an abstitent female teenager greatly today. I am a 22 female and made a few mistakes in my life. Even though it may seem like everyone else is "doing it" there is no greater gift to give your husband than to save yourself for him. I am not very religious, just have been in a lot of relationships. Teenagers are so pressured to have sex these days. I know you don't know me but I can promise you that if you wait, when you meet the man you marry, it will be the greatest gift to him and you will thank me!

I think its very important for ANY teenager, whether male or female, to be abstinent. Abstinence as a teenager, regardless of any religious views you may have, tends to be a healthier choice than sexual activity. Theres no chance of pregnancy, STDs/STIs, broken hearts and other emotional results that either can occur or be made worse by sex. Sex is messy and makes things complicated; teens tend to have already an overwhelming amount of complications in their lives without an additional potentially life-altering one.

Im not crazy-religious and Im only a few years out of my teens myself. But I work with teens and have worked in pregnancy centers and with at risk youth, etc, and Im just telling you what I saw in high school and what Ive seen since. Sex changes relationships and when youre a teen, youre still just figuring out relationships to begin with (nothing against teens, and teens can be very much truly in love, but you get better at relationships with more experience). Reserving sex until you are older and more able and ready to handle ALL the implications that come with sex is really your best choice.

That said, I don't think there is something unadmirable to something to dislike about teens who have chosen not to wait; but like any important health decisions including smoking, drugs, etc., I always think its admirable for a person to have enough self control to make healthy choices.

And mind you, again, I believe it is just as important for teen males to make the same choices; however, biologically, they do not have the same level of potential responsibility than can result from teenage sex.

the skin horse said to the velveteen rabbit: "Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."

an abstinent *isnt* admired. neither a virgin. nor a monger. UNLESS ya got personality. unless your real. then you're waiting for whats right. :-)

How do you know it is uncommon? Abstinence is common sense, and anyone who admires common sense would find it admirable in the way you are suggesting. That does not mean it is the best choice for everyone, but for those who choose to stand up for what they do in the face of what is perceived as mainstream behavior, yes, once again an admirable trait.
