Most of the time they just have a few options bundled together, like a sunroof and a spoiler or maybe some special paint scheme. It usually means very little nowadays and it's often used to bump up sales of an older model right before it's redesigned, as in the Volkswagen "Wolfsberg Editions" (built in Mexico LOL) which are always introduced towards the end of the run.
Then there are the rice-boys and other fast and furious wannabes that put fake "limited edition" stickers they bought at Wal-Mart on their cars, but thats a whole other story.

Special........
A specific model of a car which has new modifications ior has something new that the original car doesnt have is known as the limited edition and it is sold for a limited period of time,
Luxury edition is the one with luxurious parts like Wood inserts and leather upholstrey etc.
Sports edition is the one which has some special engine tunings.
Hope this really helps!

Overhyped. Manufacturers have overused the terms like "limited edition" and "special edition" to the point that they don't really mean anything.
