I heard that rumor too. But I also heard the world would end in the year 2000, and we're still here! If we let ourselves go through life always worrying about the world ending, then it already has for us as we stop living.
I say not to worry. Plan on the world being here for a very long time and enjoy every moment you have on it.

I am in my 50's. The world has been predicted to end on several occasions. Some religious sect of one kind or another would come up with the information and the pray for a few days before the final end and a miracle happened, we were spared because of the diligent effort of the faithful intervening in our behalf to postpones God's Wrath further down the line.
Don't lose sleep over it sweetie. The world was here long before man and will be here long after man is gone. As long as we can live together without doing each other in, there is a long life ahead of us.

yes...make sure you have a clean set of underwear, a few quarters in your pocket, done all your laundry, and have sliced deli meats, a good rye bread, thousand island sauce, and sour kraut to make Rubin sandwiches...a few cokes and maybe a bottle of rum for the older folks to put into their cokes...chips too, the good ones with the ridges and some sour cream dip....then just ride it out...it's only the end of the world, what could happen?
oops, I almost forgot something important...the power will probably go out, so get a supply of batteries and matches and a decent flashlight you could hang from the ceiling.....then get a chain saw and a ten pound sledge hammer and make a large hole in the side of the house so the smoke can get out from the fire you need to start in the middle of the living room...once the carpet burns down to the concrete, it should be pretty safe...but if the floor is wood, the fire is likely to get pretty big...then go to the neighbors and borrow a decent iron skillet to grill the Rubins...don't kill them to get this pan, but it's OK to rough them up a bit if you like, it's very important to have grilled Rubin's...just not the same without grilling...as a matter of fact it's hardly a Rubin at all if its not grilled in my opinion

If the Mayans were so precise in predicting the end of the world, why couldn't they predict their own social collapse?
Something to think about!

First, the date is December 21st 2012. Second the world as you know it may come to an end. Civilization may fall. But mankind and Gaia will continue even if the United States were to fall.
The date itself is the end date of the Mayan calander which has been absolutely correct in predicting events throughout history. All planets in our solar system will align in this year. This is an event which takes places once every 65,000 years. So what will be answered is what effect does the universe have on the planet earth.

No man knows for sure when the world will end. I was told in 1974 that the world would end in 1975 for sure and I was only 16 at the time. Only God knows when the world will end. Live your life and plan to live to a ripe old age.

Martin Luther said the world would end in 2000. There have been hundreds of doomsayers over the century's. My advice, ignore them.
