We have no class. Don't take offence to that question. We are trying to be funny...and we are not. We love people with accents. We love to hear them talk. We ask all sorts of crazy questions just to hear you talk. We are not the brightest bunch, so please excuse us when we are rude. We just don't know any better. The next time someone asks you if you are in the mafia, just say, yeah, and if you piss me off I'll have to send Guido over to your house to break your legs. To us, that would be funny. I bet you get all the babes. If you don't...you will.

no doubt you moved here from the old country at an early age. just explain that is why you have the accent. also, you act italian because you are a normal italian, and not all italians are in the mafia. if that's not a good enough answer for them, it's their problem and they are wasting their time giving you a bad time. they may be asking you such silly questions because they want to laugh at you. if that is true, they are just mean hearted kids and are not making kind choices. unkind choices will be bad for them later in life. don't let it worry you. there will be more friendly people in your future. you need to keep being kind and friendly to others and you will find some of those you are kind to will be friendly to you.

don't tell them your great uncle was!
Kids seek out differences - like being tall, or being italian - and interrogate those kids. Differences are what make people interesting! You have to react positively: explain your accent depends on where you come from, geographically, and class-wise (e.g. a New York City lawyer sounds different from a NYC street sweeper, usually). Tell them there are some positive side effects of your being Italian: you know a good pizza when you see one.....then invite them round to your house for some pizza....you know.....have some fun!

I don't know what they mean when you act Italian, since you may very well be the only Italian person they know. Perhaps they mean you act like their stereotype of Italian people, wherever that comes from.
As for the Mafia comments, it's simply to bother you. Don't pay attention to it.

haha ciao, sono italiana but i live in canada, i was born here though. im 20, my grandparents are from italy but i speak it perfectly. People ask me those questions all the time and tell me that I act italian. I'm proud of it and it makes me feel good when they say those things because i know i haven't lost any of my roots. Be proud and if they ask you if you're mafioso just say ya! that'll get them to stop asking lol. Be proud. Siamo Campioni del mondo!! Buon Natale and keep your chin up. don't be mad, be proud.

NO. Honey don't let the stereotype sway you. It's like saying Asians are suppose to be this way, White people are suppose to be that way, Black people are this way...NO, those are stereotypes...be YOU and don't pay any mind to that BullS*it...keep glowing and be proud of your beautiful heritage and what it represents, and no it doesn't represent the mafia..You represent italia from the heart!!
Buon Natale!
