ARENA....Arena trunks, Arena goggles, Arena earplugs, Arena cap, Arena noseclip and afterwards, Arena chamois towel...you also need an Arena Swimmer's mesh bag to put it all in when you're not in the water.
If you want to go up to a higher level, you need Arena training fins, Arena pullbouy, a pair Arena training paddles, Arena breaststroke fins and many more...
Who says swimming is a cheap sport?

Well first off I hate to say this but swimming isnt something that you should be forced to do you should do it because you love to do it and not because some people are making you and its just going to hurt you and your not really going to get anything out of it. Then your jsut hurting the team since you probably wont be putting forth a lot of effort. Now anyhow, the guys have a choice of a speedo or the shorts and most guys choose the shorts, and Nike, Speedo, TYR, and other swimwear like that is really good. You can get stuff like that from Dicks Sporting Goods for a decent price like around $30 or $40, which isnt terribly expensive. Other then that just try your best and have fun.

if you're serious about swimming, get a square cut. Speedo makes a bunch and they cover you pretty good. In that way, you don't look like an idiot in board shorts and uncomfortable in a traditional speedo. Once you get into the swim and develop the body, change to a competition speedo or nike suit.

Swimming isn't something you should take up because you have to. It's very hard work; I've been swimming for 7 years competively and i'm still not as good as I would like to be. that's what it's all about; beating yourself. if you've never done it before, i reccommend you try a different sport to have to take up. But if you have to swim, speedo is a good brand but TYR is one of my personal favorites. If you're on a school swim team they should provide a suit for you.

Why do you have to take up swimming? Exercise or competition like school sports.
For exercise just about anything will do if it is allowed in the pool. For competion you might look into speedo.

It depends on how serious you want to get.
To start off you should just get a cheap pair of racing togs, but when you get more serious you should look into full suit togs or even medium length, your looking at a couple of hundrud dolars once you get serious

since ur just starting...try jammers. bc speedoes can be embarrassing for a beginner and the body suits are for very serious swimmers...good luck!! i love swim team, its like one huge family..so have fun!
