Do you believe is organ donation and transplants, blood transfusion, artificial hearts, artificial limbs, artificial insemination, etc. Medical research and technology has radically improved the quality of life for many people. Do we accept that people should accept their illnesses and just live with them? Should we deny sight to the blind if we have the technology to give them that gift? do we let premature babies die because they "might not thrive" or do we try to save them? Do we donate organs for transplant upon the death of a loved one or do we bury the organs with the dead? Stem cell research is a new medical frontier which may offer hope for many people. The source of the stem cells is the issue for most people. However I think that this research is important and may prove to be a positive from a negative souce.I don't agree with cloning.

I believe that it could go a long way in helping us understand how to fight diseases. It's a shame how we get the stem cells but if they're already going to die then why not use it for the greater good so their deaths will not be in vein.

As far as cloning goes, that's playing god more then we ever should. The day we clone humans is the day we will probably truely kill religion and then we might lose our mortal compass.

The real question is how can we synthesize stem cells so we don't have to deal with babies in any way to get them. God knows we synthesize everything else. And as for cloning, I wish we could clone ourselves. Any one on a waiting list for a donated organ wishes that. We don't need to clone a whole body, just a needed organ.

There are millions of reasons why we should have stem cell research, and there are perfectly usable stem cells in the embilacle (sp?) cord that is usually just thrown away after the birth.

I think they should be used, because they could save lives. I just don't see what the debate is about.
