The joint where the screen folds down is badly cracked on one side. Where can I take my laptop for repair? How much can I expect to pay? I have a Dell Inspiron, it is 4 yr. old and no longer under warranty.

You did not give a model number, so I can only estimate. But it sounds like they would have to replace the plastic case.

If it is the bottom case, expect to pay $80-120 for the part. Plus at least that much again in labor, as they would have to completely disassemble and the entire insides of the laptop to change the case.

If it is the plastic around the display, expect to pay around $60-100 for the plastic. Labor should also be a little less, as change the display does not require as much work.

For a four year old laptop, it probably is not worth what it would cost to repair it. I have one with a cracked hinge. I found a metal bookend at a 99 cent store that fits perfectly behind and under the laptop and holds up the display just fine. Have used it for a couple years like that. Might consider that as an alternative.

Good luck

you'll nicely be able to come across a alternative reveal or seem for a useless pc of the same variety on ebay. (when I recommend useless i recommend having the reveal operating) reflects are not difficult to replace, yet would set you decrease back a lot of money (they are probably the most severe priced element of a pc). in case you at the on the spot are not prepared to pay that, then both keep on with creating use of a pc video reveal or get a clean pc :(
