all the teams that miss the playoffs are entered in a lottery, with the worse teams getting more balls in the drawing. Then one is randomly selected and given the top pick.
as long as the knicks miss the playoffs they have a shot at the top pick.

thats all it will be with the lottery,,which is so lame i think,,,the celtics though are the biggest loser in the lottery in history,,them and san antonio were the worst teams (the celtics had worse of a record between the 2) and the lottery gave the spurs the 1st pick and with that pick,went on to dominate the nba with tim duncan while the celts missed out.

They are always in the lottery. This year should not be an exception. 3 teams...almost, almost 30% each of getting it. But the knicks never get it, what a shame. They are always destined to failure....
