I just recieved my first notebook computer, and was just wondering if there was anything you have to do before you charge the battery for the first time to ensure maximum battery performance and life. Do you have to drain it fully first and then charge it, or just charge it fully as is. It is a 6 cell li-ion battery. Thanks alot!

It's recommended that you fully charge the battery, then use it until the notebook goes into hibernation due to low battery conditions. Then, charge it up again and repeat the process at least three times.

It's also recommended that you do not leave the battery in your notebook if you are going to use it as a desktop computer for extended period of time (weeks/months), because it will ruin your battery. One way to avoid this problem would be to simply remove the power plug from your notebook and run off the battery a couple times a week until the battery is almost depleated.

Generally with today's batteries, no. If there are specific care instructions like that, they would be in the documentation that came with the laptop (You did not give model - sorry) and on the manufacturer's website.

But normally, no.

Charge it for the full time recommended in your manual and since it is Li-ion it wont get memory burn so you can use it until it asks you to recharge. Recharging when-ever it requires.

Use the computer ''as is'', it will prompt you when it is ready for a charge.
