My teen would HAVE to remove it. Lobe piercing if fine and one piercing only. The rule in my household is "When your 18 AND on your own, without my financial support" then you can pierce & tatoo anything you want. I don't judge those who do pierce & tatoo things, but I do know that people do things when they're young that they grow up to regret. It's my way of helping them get thru that faze without permantly damaging their bodies & live with the regret. That also includes tanning as well. But like I said when they reach adulthood AND no longer rely on me for financial support (college, auto insurance, health insurance, etc) then and only then will I support their choices. But while they're my responsibility I make the final decisions. It's as simple as that. It's not about control, it's about learning how to deal with trendy and permanent impulses.

I have a 14 year old daughter. We had her very young and are considered very "cool" parents by her and all her friends. However, we would both be so terribly outraged that no amount of Zoloft would make the situation any better. I asked her what would happen if she did this. After she stopped laughing, she said "I would never do that. I value my life too much!"

Well at this point you can't stop her from doing this because it's done, but you can make some consequences for her choice, such as grounding. You also need to make sure she had this peircing done by a profession to prevent any infections showing up, if a profession did not do it, then you will want to keep your eye on it for any swolleness, redness, puffy or any type of drainage, if that shows up get her to see her doctor.

The point that its cartilage is not a big deal to me, but that the daughter went behind your back and did something without your consent or permission is the problem. I would ground her and make it close up.

I would not antogonize my daughter bcoz this might isolate her . I will simply congratulate her on her sense of style but would later on try to fish answers on why she did this. Is this because of her peer pressure? A statement to be noticed ? Be a friend since this is the age where they are trying to explore possibilities for them. But always look out for what's good for them
