how do i hook up xbox live?

i know you have to buy the subscription but do i just hook up an ethernet cord from my computer modem to the xbox360 or how does that work?

You will need a wired or wireless router to connect your xbox 360. Your cable modem has only one ethernet port which is taken by your pc. Check out xboxlive website, they have all kind of guides and how to's.
