I think they did help a great deal, but they didn't do it by themselves. It would be silly to say that. It is a big country and the manpower alone contributed alot. I don't like the films where they make out like they won the war single handedly, for example that u-571 film. The enigma was cracked by the British even before the US entered the war. They haven't done so well in wars since ww2 anyway. Vietnam was a disaster and Iraq is going the same way. They are just a a large country with alot of money to spend on killing everyone. They think the way to win a war is to kill as many people and to wreck as many lives as possible. I'm going off the point a bit but I do think they helped alot during ww2. I would also like to say that my grandfather fought in ww2 and I hate when Americans say they won the war for us, it's like everyone elses efforts were a waste of time.

Well, it was an allied victory. That being said, yes America was the deciding factor in WW2. We propped up Great Britain, Russia, and China before we ever sent in troops of our own. Without the American aid: ships, tanks, guns, ammo, planes and bombs, the UK would have fallen as well as the rest of Europe.
The D-day invasion was made possible because of American firepower. We took Omaha Beach- the most heavily fortified and defended beach in France. Also remember that America was fighting on 2 major theatres. The Pacific theatre and the European theatre. America also played a large roll in Africa as well as Italy. In the end, we nuked Japan -killing 130,000 Japanese- effectively ending the war. Without the Our technology -nuclear weapons- the war would have raged for many more months. 1,000,000 of Japanese would have been killed if it were not for the A-Bomb.
In closing, WW2 could not have been won without America. However, it is important to note that many many many other people from around the world played their part too. Nearly 20,000,000 Russians were killed, 6,000,000 Jews 8,000,000 Germans and 400,000 Americans...Many contributed to the allied victory...but American involvement was crucial.

According to Hollywood and no doubt the American history books they won the war, on their own and for purely altruistic reasons.
Fact and reality tell a somewhat different story:
There is no doubt that in the pacific theatre and against the Japanese, the war and the victory was predominantly theirs although the Australians and Newzealanders played significant parts.
On the Russian front they provided, at a cost, significant material aid to enable our convoys to supply the Russian army. The fighting on that front was done predominantly by the Russians alone.
In the European theatre they initially supplied, again at a cost, significant material but prior to Pearl Harbour no formal manpower. Post pearl Harbour this changed and the USA finally entered the war.
There is NO doubt that their ability to produce weapons and materials in amounts that no other country could possible match was invaluable. BUT by the same token this was a WORLD war, remember the Norwegian, Polish Yugoslavian, Greek and French resistance fighters and those that joined the allied forces having escaped from their homelands.
For any one country to claim credit is wrong and insulting, the German war machine was well developed and strategically placed in the centre of Europe to command the continent. There is a possibility, perhaps a probability that Germany would have invaded England, we shall never know thanks to ALL the allied forces who combined against this tyranical threat to world peace.

The British determination helped to win the war. It annoys me when people always gives the yanks the credit.
Do we not forget that we, the uk got involved with the war as our friends were invaded. What do the yanks do, they wait until they get attacked.
We also had to pay for the american services, every time a plane flew off, boat set sail etc, we the Uk paid for it, the cheeky gits charged us.
These yanks, just like any other war, fought greatly, killing many Uk soldiers as they are too bloody thick, (even 60 years later), to know who is on there side.
An then we have to turn around and not only say they helped us, but to call them our friends too.
The only good things from the Usa, was propaganda films, such as Casablanca.

The ability to mass produce everything was one of the key factors that helped win the war. Unlike those who really believe that the U.S.A. did not enter the war till it was almost won need to really study history again. The U.S.A. sent so much moneyand supplies to England, Russia, and other countries before enterying the war that most forget. Without these supplies they would not have been able to continue to fight in many cases. Although the U.S.A. was or had not entered the war they sent convoys to England and did blockades with their ships to keep the German Wolfpacks at bay.
Did the U.S. win WW2 no not by themselves but with the rest of the Allies.
I like what Mr. Chruchill said........"Never in the course of human history has so much been owed to so few"...yes I know it is not a direct quote but without the RAF fighting to help keep the skys of England safe the Germans could have done even more damage that they did.
Again no one country "won" the war by themselves but together they did.

By the time the USA came into the war, Hitler had been stopped, but not beaten. The main effect of American involvement was significantly to shorten the second phase of the war. America's vast production capacity (conveniently beyond the range of the Luftwaffe) was vital to the war effort. However, as others have pointed out, it was not "aid", as it all had to be paid for, which is why the Brits ended up bankrupt.

Learn some history!
We are still paying for the aid the US gave in WW2!
They DID NOT do it out of the goodness of their hearts, or for Pearl Harbour!
Why the Hell when all the other nations turned their backs on the US when they invaded Iraq, and the world condemned them, WE stood by them?
Why, when NO country would let US aircraft fly in their airspace, to bomb Libya, WE DID!
Just to name two!
Yes, we would have been up sh it creek without the US, but they did not win it for us, but the aid helped, and note the word AID!

Why does everyone seem to fprget the Polish, Canadians, Auastralians, New Zealanders, Russians and countless other allies who fought alongside the UK in this conflict. It wasn't solely about UK and USA. As the name describes it, it was a World War. America fought for it's own reasons, Pearl Harbour being the most significant. We traded with the US, sending exports to pay for supplies, and our replacement weapons, mentioned by soemone earlier we made here. One last point, it is not really that long ago that we finally paid of the monetary debt to the US for their aid.

Yes. Without the Yanks the War would have been lost. We didn't have the ability to combat Hitler alone. In spite of Churchill's "We will fight them on the Beaches......" speech.
So thank you America, and RIP all your brave soldiers who died in the cause.
But remember we paid for everything they provided. That's why at the end of hostilities the UK was Bankrupt!
US Vaults were filled to the brim with Britain's Gold and Securities.......and from then on they were firmly established as the World Power they are today.

Well actually No America didn't win the war...
In fact if it wasn't for Pearl Harbour they wouldn't have even lifted a finger...
It was the Hard working Soldiers and Sailors etc... like my Grandfather and his Father etc... who won the war...
Winston Churchill and the rest...
The Americans only helped out at the very end... and No they didn't do very much apart from taking all the Credit from us Brits...
= NO OFFENCE MEANT TO ANYONE BUT THAT'S JUST MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION!!! :-) =
