I lived in NYC/Brooklyn for 5 years and I still couldn't figure it out. Summer or winter, rain or shine, New Yorkers always wear black. Why?

Black is always chic, can be accessorized for a multitude of looks & mixes w/other pieces of wardrobe. It may also be a kind of uniform which identifies you as "one of us".
