I am considering a career in either medical technology or radiography. I would get a bachelor degree for either career track but I'm not sure which one to pick. I worked in a pathology lab before and enjoyed it but I have also observed radiographers and I think I would enjoy that as well. Any suggestions?

Yes! Anything related to the Medical field is great. Jobs are always in demand and the pay is very good. Sometimes you are on call and wear a pager. You are paid very well for when you are on call and if you get paged you must drop everything and come to work. My boyfriend works at a hospital, has excellent benefits, pay .. its very rewarding! Best of Luck and God Bless! :)

A medical technology license is a 1 year training program onto a bachelors (a 4+1); the two year or associates is a medical technician (much like a RN & a LPN); the technician does lower complexity testing and automation. If anyone gets eliminated, it will be the the technician as federal law stipulates who can run tests, and a lessor trained person could not run higher complexity tests. The bachelors will always get the higher pay & that will not change--again due to federal law because it will take a technologist to run those tests. As a new med tech, you can work 40 hours but the actual shift will depend on where you work & what shifts are open. Med techs make pretty good pay and you can pick up part time work to supplement easily. I did this for many years before I moved on & made a very good living. They are & have been for some time, in demand as not to many people really know about this anymore (it was very competitive when I first applied). You can talk to the ASCP & other national organizations to clarify.

It is a fantastic career. People will always need help and will always be getting sick, no matter what the financial state of the economy is. :)

NO. a bachelors is not enough to get into med. tech or radiology. ESPECIALLY RADIOLOGY. my dad is a radiologist, he has a masters and bachlors which is considered the minimum.

but the pay is schweeeeeet. he says its 80dollars/hour. dont get your hopes up. you should try being an xray tech.
