You didn't say what water you are trying to measure the temperature of. If it's bath water, check the baby section of a store like Wal Mart or Target, or wherever bath toys are. They have everything from plain ones to bright colored shapes, to floating ones, to ones that look like bath toys.

If you are measuring the water of an aquarium, check the pet department, where the fish are. You really want an aquarium thermometer to measure that kind of water.

If you are hoping to measure the temperature of a pool, jacuzzi, or hot tub, then check the pool supply stores or Wal Mart for one specifically made for that purpose.

For any other use (measuring the temperature of a cup of water for instance) a normal kitchen thermometer or candy thermometer will do the trick.

To get a thermometer that is accurate enough for your needs, try a scientific supply store, or a teacher supply store (ask for chemistry equipment).
