Like do you have any bad associations (life events) with otherwise happy music to make it seem sad?

Happy music that reminds you of happy times in the past which are no more? Yes.

Yes. I can think of a particular instance, where I was at a wedding with my partner, and the music was very happy and all, but we were both sad because we aren't legally able to marry because we are both women.

also, i cry over songs that i associate with ex's. they were once happy songs, but now they make me sad.

Yup,
for example, you heard happy song which you usually hear with your friends when both of you happy. Now, something bad happened between both of you and you can feel sad hearing that song again.

That has happened to me, but more with romantic songs, rather than happy ones. If the experience was not pleasant I try to avoid that song at all costs.

Sometimes only because you don't have what its saying at the moment or your not feeling the same emotions the song is so jolly about, otherwise it should cheer you up.
