Reason One: The marriage got boring. The same things are happening every day. Going to work, Eating, Sitting in front of the TV, Showering, Then going to bed.
Reason Two: The marriage has became more like roommates that are not like best friends. Fighting a lot.
Reason Three: Two many things has changed about the women, Like gained weight lost weight. Isn't kind, sweet, loving anymore, or has became to uppity/ preppy like.
Reason Four: Abusive/Other, Doesn't show that she cares about his options, Yells a lot, What ever the conversation is it turns in to a fight, Hits him, Cusses at him a lot more then normally, Does include him in the decisions making. Has stopped taking take of the house/kids. Has became lazy. Or your not taking as good of care of your self. Don't go out on dates anymore. Isn't exciting anymore.
Reason Five: The sexual appeal isn't there anymore, Sex has stopped or chance in a drastic way. Or he has found some one else that he likes.
Just remember its something new and exciting and he isn't letting his feelings out about how he really feels about you if he is cheating and is with her right now, but if he truly is still in love with you he will be back if you would want him back. There is a chance tho if he is with another women that it will take a bit longer because like i said his emotions are being barred with new fun exciting emotions.

Hate to say it, but he found someone who gave him what he wanted sexually.
Mst of us are exactly that simplistic - find a woman who will 'do' everything, and looks, etc. don't matter. It's her attitude towards sex - how she treats him - throw in the fantasy aspect where they haven't had to pay bills, do taxes, fix the garbage disposal, etc. so it's very unreal.
But it's mostly sex.

If she got fat, didn't want sex, complained all the time, always corrected things her husband said, generally being a married woman of 20 years.

because he couldn't work out problems with his wife, bad communication skills, so he began a relationship with this woman at work. the woman gave him an ultamitium, and was very forceful, and he thought it was over with his wife, so he left her to be with the homewrecker.

The only valid "reasons" would be she had an affair, was abusive, or something else along these lines. Other than that, there are only excuses.
