I bought a external portable hard drive, loaded it up with my brothers music but when I plugged it into my computer nothing happend. A CD came with it and I tried to use that to help. The hard drive was supposed to be a plug-and-use device but I decided to try to load the software on the CD anyways. When I tried a message appered saying to plug in the hard drive when I already had. Please Help, thank you

I would assume that you tried other USB slots? Do you have other USB devices running on your system? Does the Hard Drive Spin up (Lights come on?) If not, and you have other USB devices attached, then unplug all that you can and see if the drive powers up. If you don't have any USB devices then are you sure your USB is turned on? It may be disabled in BIOS? Hope this helps...

It could be that you may have to update some basic hardware drivers on your system. Check that your system can support USB 2.0, you may have to update your bios to be able to do it.

you'll have to provide more info if thats the problem.

Your system may not have sufficient power in its usb ports to power too many devices. The standard calls for 5 volts but doesn't say how many amps to supply. Check your hard drive if it has an external power supply for it.

Some drive problems can be easily fixed by yourself using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
