Entirely out of curiosity.
What IS her name?
I think people took her name as AERIS because of the movie...or more...
but I think AERITH is the right one.

Self-opinions welcome even if not based on facts. C:

I feel kinda loony right now so mind any spelling mistakes

Her name is an anagram of "I Earth".

If it's named in Japanese, she probably would be named as "Chii" (Earth + I). ;)

Her name is spelled in katakana as "E-A-Ri-Su".

The Hebrew word for Earth is "Erets" or "Erez"

The North American demo for Final Fantasy VII spelled her name as "Aerith", however in the final version of the North American version her name was spelled as "Aeris". However, the game accepted any name inputted as her name.

I wouldn't inputted her name as "Maaya" though, "Mimi" and "Maria" on the other hand would fit fine.

Originally Aerith, but Aeris sounds better to me. It's pretty. That was a fun game. Sometimes I wish I hadn't given it away, especially considering how much its worth on ebay now.

It depends on the translation. Both are correct. The Japanese letter for S and TH is the same.
