it takes awhile to pick up speed

Could be the catalytic converter stopping up as I had this problem and felt it more on uphill grades. Get it checked

Clogged catalytic converter. Dirty fuel injectors (though that often leads to a lean condition so you should see the check engine light) Oxygen sensors (bad ones only cause a slight decrease in performance though).

Other sensor problems, bad maf.

You might want to try "Seafoam". Google it, this could take care of your problems for as little as $5 if its fuel related.

how many miles on it?
check your air filter first, see if it's clogged. in cold areas, mice like to make nests in comfy air cleaner boxes

sounds to me like all cynlinders arent working or it might just need a tune up
