Kentucky has 3 main staples: Bourbon, Horse Racing, and Tobacco..
The people: Most people have a southern accent of some sort. You say redneck and probably think toothless hillbilly driving a beat up 70's model F-150.. They're there as well as in every other rural area in the US. They're just friendlier in Kentucky. There is as much a variety of people in Kentucky as most any other state.
The scenery: If you're a fan of nature and history, you've come to the right state. Avoid the major highways and interstates and you will have an enjoyable scenic drive. Many of the smaller scenic routes include miles of stone walls running parallel to the road. If you're looking for a party town, stick to the major cities of Kentucky such as Lexington and Louisville. They have decent bars and last call is anywhere from 2am-4am.
The Booz: Beware of the southern counties in Kentucky, some are dry and you'll find yourself thirsty for days. 95% of all bourbon is made in Kentucky. There are tons of distilleries which offer free or cheap tours and samples. Also, no sunday Alcohol sales except in restaurants and in Middletown.
Tobacco: Cheap, lots of tobacco farms and farmers.

I live there. It depends on where in KY you are going. You are falling for stereotypes if you think everyone is a redneck. Rednecks are everywhere...trust me.
