I've seen a couple of pictures by people who say they drew them with a mouse. Most of these people normally use tablets and the tablets are invariably cleaner, prettier, smoother pictures. I know that I can't use a mouse to draw at all. I had a big, nice tablet for a couple of years and for my birthday this year my parents got me a Tablet PC which is absolutely spectacular because it's a laptop that I can fold down in order to draw right on the screen.
I know that a lot of graphic artists are really interested in the tablet PCs.
If you're interested in getting a tablet, though, Aiptek sells one that is comparitively cheap, called the Hyperpen.

RE:
Is it even possible to draw well with a mouse in a drawing program?
Instead, do a lot of people use a graphics tablet? Or what?

Well, it's really hard, and takes a lot on concntration, and a LOT of time, but I've seen some pretty nice drawings done with a mouse. You just have to go little bit by little bit, so you don't mess up.
But, hands down, a pencil/pen drawn picture will pretty much ALWAYS look better then one down with a mouse.

I do think it is possible to draw high-quality drawings with a mouse. It is just not very common.
Think about this. How many years have you been using a pen/pencil or whatever? If you used a mouse as much as you did a pencil for as many years, your drawing ability using a mouse would probably be very good. Its just that most people do not have the same level of experience, hour for hor, as they do with pencil.
at least that my opinion.

Most illustrators that use Adobe Illustrator will tell you the pen tool is what you use for creating vector graphics. With that you do not need to know how to draw at all. You just need to know how to trace and then add color in the correct spots. I have both a mouse and a graphics tablet. I do not use my tablet that often only when I am looking for a hand drawn feeling.

I think it depends on the program.
I've drawn in Flash with a mouse. The lines don't have to be perfect because you can easily modify them, straighten and smooth them, and what not. I didn't really approve of the drawing tablet I once used. They take some getting used to (but, mice do too, I suppose).
Overall, the solution, at least for Flash, is probably to scan pictures and trace them.
God bless.

Yes it is possible, you need a good mouse, and able to control your hands well without shaking.. practice makes perfect.
I think drawing with the mouse takes too long and most people that are impatient usually uses graphic tablet.

Yes, I do beleive you can draw well with just a mouse.
I've watched animations that were very good, and all done by hand. And seen pictures. I myself have done a fairly nice drawing with just the mouse.
Anyway...hope that helps.

Try attaching a pencil or just a stick to your mouse and draw by it.
