If you're running Windows, there is a feature called Restore. Go to start->all programs->accessories>system tools>system restore. It's pretty straightforward after that. just choose the date you want to go back to.

I hope you have a version of Windows. Then at the boot before a second or two after the RAM memory is scanned, tap on F8 key.
I just start tapping on the F8 key as soon as the boot RAM is nearing the finish and keep doing it until the black screen shows me the choices.
Then select "restore to the last one that worked".

System Restore is good because it resets programs and downloaded programs to a previous time but there is also a better program called Go Back which I prefer. Go Back rolls everything back to a previous time including documents.

Yes it's called restore, you can click on start, and go to accessories and look for restore, and find restore to an earlier time, it comes with a calendar and you can go back one day or more.

It sounds to me that you are looking for system restore.
start-->all programs-->accessories-->system tools-->system restore
It will then ask you to pick a day to restore to and it will do the rest
Good luck
