SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is one of the standards but colleges also use the ACT (American College Testing) for those who have not taken the SATs in high school. University requirements depend on the University you wish to attend as they vary and are sometimes different for international students. Contact the Universities you are considering and they can give you requirements and give you information on testing.

SAT stands for Standardized Aptitude Testing. Most 11th graders from a high school would take this test. The score they get affects the university's decision to accepting a student. And no, I don't think you need to have taken the SAT to get into an American university.

You don't NEED to take the SAT to graduate from high school, and for many schools now, SATs aren't required for inclusion on an application to college...though the "best" schools still require it.
Visit www.collegeboard.com to learn more about the SAT. Essentially, it's a standardized test that tests reading comprehension, grammar skills, various types of math, etc. There are three parts that each have a high/possible score of 800, for a total overall of 2400. Because the SAT was recently changed to include the (new) third section on writing, many colleges are not using that portion of the test at all, or heavily, in making decisions....'till they're more sure what kind of predictor of success it is.
Best of luck to you.
