I understand the other implications about race, religion, etc. But with this kind of responsibility; to make sure that the human race survives, would you hope for the best and procreate with another mammal animal, e.g. ape, chimpanzee, etc?

not possible to procreate with another species.
even if it somehow happened, the offspring would either be sterile (like a mule) and would def. not be "human"....something like those designer mutts...
a hupanzeee ? chimpaman? lol!

Implications about race and religion, nothing. The real problem would be biology. For all that we're closely related to chimps, there's no actual evidence that we'd be able to produce viable offspring with them. Assuming you bypass difficulties actually getting a chimp and a human to mate and instead use artificial insemination (which would also be very, very tricky), there's no way of knowing if the sperm will actually fertilize the egg, or if the fetus would develop, or if that fetus would mature into a fertile adult.

It would be even more difficult with species further away. Chimps, maybe. Gorillas? ....Perhaps. Lemurs? No freakin' way. You don't even have the possibility of managing with all the other primates, let alone going out with the rest of the mammals.

I'd say hang it all, get drunk, and watch a lot of porn.

The very definition of the "species" holds that a member of a species can ONLY procreate with a member of that same species. It would be genetically impossible for a human to produce offspring with an ape, or any other animal for that matter.

I would be making sure some knowedge was in a useable, idestructable form, like stone tablets etc. That way, whoever comes after us, might not make the same mistakes.
Trying to mate with a different species would be in vain; even if you could find a nice looking gorilla or orang-utan. Even closely related species like horses and donkeys produce sterile young. Humans and apes would not get passed the fertilisation stage. Our chromosomes are incompatible.

No. Not only does the thought make me sick, but what does the monkey think of doing me? Wouldn't I get scratched or something. If I were in that situation I would be pretty pissed off that I were the last human on earth and I would definitely not want to burden my child with the same morbid sentence.

Even though we have most of our genes in common, we can't procreate with them because they are distributed differently and have a different number of chromosomes. What I'd try is fing living human cells and try cloning. Clonings original purpose was to bring back endangered species, so if I was the last one, I'd definitely qualify.

Sterile young, as has been said. That being said the only viable reason for "getting it on" with a hapless chimp would be for one more degenerate act from the ol' human race. Harrumph.

I'd bloody cry while doing it, asking what on earth brought me to this, prolly!

But its impossible, so phew! I'd most likely freeze myself and hope some intelligent form of life would do something in the future.

I try having sex with a bonobo or chimpanzee. I doubt it would work, but lions and tigers can have offspring, so there's a chance.
