The same people that hate Hilary probably would "prevent" Oprah from ever taking public office It's an ugly thing to say about the USA but take a look at Richard Scafe and similar types have the $$$ to do whatever they feel gets the job done. And it is very true that liberals are not as vicious as conservatives. I will never get the picture out of my mind of the conservative hacks practically breaking down the doors in Florida during the recounts in the 2000 election

All these people saying Oprah has no political experience so she couldn't run for office is interesting. I think a part time BMV worker could have done a better job in Iraq that the dynamic duo of the Bush/Cheney thunk tank

No, because she has no credibility. All someone has to do is bring up the fact that she was made famous by talking to other rich peopel on some day time show and she suddenly looks a lot more stupid.

Another thing against her is that she is a black woman. At least subconciously, too many people would have a problem with a black person or a woman being president. Also, this upcoming election is fileld with celebrity already with Hilary Clinton (the Dems worst nightmare if she wins primaries). Hilary and Oprah would battle it out for all the angry housewives votes but ultimately just kill eachother.

I just realized I assumed she would be running Democratic, but it is becasue the thought of the Republicans putting up Oprah as a presidential candidate just makes me laugh at how isolated their party members would be (I hate to generalize, but do you think the south is gonna pick a black woman? Answer: hell no.)

Sorry if you're some wacked out feminism fanatic who thinks being rediculously rich and thus doing some good things with your money suddenly makes you politically relevant.

probably there are enough people out there who vote for stupid reasons, like "they just love oprah", "or they think she is great", or "everyone else is voting for her"

Not knocking Oprah or anything, I mean as a business woman she really has few on her level, but as a politician??????? The best thing that she would have going for her, is her credibility, I think of all the canidates out there I probably would trust her the most not to lie to the public, not to look out for herself or her friends.

Okay I want to express my problem with this question. It raises the issue of something called "rankism" in this country. You have decided that because this woman was successful in television and was able to parlez her success into a magazine, website, and a multimillion dollar empire, she must be qualified to be the leader of this country. While she has accomplished a great deal in her time I really dont understand why you think her experience in entertainment would translate to leadership. The presidency is NOT a polularity contest, and noone will win just for being "likeable".

I tend to reject the people who have no political experience whatsoever -- people like Jesse Jackson, Gary Bauer, Steve Forbes.

Oprah qualifies in the constitutional sense. And if a majority decide that the prefer celebrity status to experience, ... well, ...

All I can say as that I won't be voting anyway, no matter who runs.

Unless Pee-Wee Herman runs. I could vote for Pee-Wee.

Wouldn't surprise me! She could come in with a big broom - hit some over the head with it to knock some sense into them and sweep the rest of them out!

Well...I think the women would vote for her but I am sure all men would vote against her because they are tired of hearing their wives talk about her.
