They usually last a very long time. Most of the time you will notice it when you shut your computer down and unplug it or the electricity goes out - it will reset your BIOS and your computer's Date and Time will be wrong. No real big deal. If it dies completely then you will never be able to save your CMOS/BIOS data. Simply go to Wal-Mart and buy a new battery - you can usually find them there, if not then go to any computer store and you will find it there - more expensive though I'm sure. Once you change it out you will have to set up your BIOS again, but then you will be good to go, you could probably even just accept default settings and go from there. Hope this helps...

The battery on the mobo keeps the rtc (real time clock) chip on the bios running. The worst that will happen is you loose your bios settings and the hardware time. The bios will simply be reset to factory default and you loose any bios passwords you may have set. A lot of mobos have capacitors for the bios that recharge when the pc is plugged in, and the lithium batt only kick in when it needs to - it can last anything between 2 - 10 years. If you have a really really old pc then the battery used to be soldered (yup soldered!!) on, if your pc is not older than 8 years, its most likely run by the big 2pence sized lithium batteries that most calculators run on. simply buy a new one and replace the one on the mobo.

Do you quite think of all and numerous can answer this question the way you asked? How do i know how lots you employ your participant? in case you run it each and every of the time, the battery will could desire to be recharged lots beforehand of in case you employ it for 5 minutes a week. at last you will could desire to swap it, yet how quickly, relies upon on how lots you employ your participant and the way many situations your recharged the battery (those batteries are good for a definite style of rates, they final an prolonged time, yet no longer continuously.)
