I received 2 gift cards which are $20 and $10 each. I am going to buy a Xbox 360 from Gamestop, so I need the cash from the giftcards. Can I take my gift cards into the Wal * Mart and get the money value for them? If it matters, I live in Ohio.

When I worked at WalMart, we (all cashiers) had to take a CBL (computer-based learning- that is to say, a quick little info course and test on the computer) teaching us how to do a number of transactions. One was cashing in a gift card. Here in SC, we are not allowed to cash them in. However in many states the law requires that cashing a gift card must be an option. If not, buy something with it, then return the item with receipt- I have done this and they give the refund in cash, not card.

Incidentally CSM's don't usually take CBL's, and therefore tend to be entirely ignorant about policy and prodecure. I reccomend not asking them (they are the people in red vests, at least here) but asking one of them for a manager, and asking him/her. Better still, call the store and ask for a manager.

Again- failing all else, buy and return.

I am a Customer Service Manager at wal-mart in Minnesota, and , No , you cant get cash from the gift cards.
It might be different at your store, but I'm pretty sure its a universal thing

This is the sort of situation that depends on the customer service representative that you get. You *can* get it in cash, but the CSR can also say no. My guess is you have a good chance seeing as 1) the amounts are relatively small, and 2) it's right after Christmas.

I doubt it, but I saw on the news there is a website where you can trade gift cards with people, in case you didnt get ones that you can use. I'm not sure of the site, but you could search for it under "trading gift cards" and see what you find.
