I am not that fond of wolf guts so I would rather be the sheep and eat some poison first so the fierce mean one wouldn't get the last laugh.

Even if you meant it metaphorically, I'd still rather be the wolf. Since "sheep" implies being a mindless follower...and I'd rather be howling at the moon.
