Yep, the password to connect is the only option. Think of something very unusual and not connected to the family (otherwise the kids might guess!). Use numbers too as that makes it harder to crack. Dont forget the code, otherwise you will have a huge amount of trouble getting it sorted;

There are several ways. If you don't want someone using your computer at all, then you can use a boot password. Be careful because if you forget, you are locked out.
If you want your computer available, but not the Internet, then you can put a password on your Internet connection and disable the remember password box on the log in screen. You could have a separate log on id just for you, and make the connection only available to you. There are many ways, you just need to decide which on is best.

Click on the Start button. Go to Control Panel. Go to User Accounts. Make sure you are the computer administrator and turn off the guest account. Create a password that you can't forget and won't share. If you create accounts for others, limit their access. Being the administrator, you can delete their accounts at anytime.
Talk to you Internet provider and they can help you make sure you don't personally lose your Internet connection while you take the access away from everyone else.
Also, get a desk that you can lock securely and don't lose the key. Make sure everything is turned off when the desk is closed, because everything that is turned on generates heat and could cause a fire or damage the item that is turned on, that includes your Internet connection, monitor, speakers, tower, printer, etc.

Set your internet connection to ask for a password every time it goes online. If you set it in memory it will connect automatically for anybody.
