This is whenever the egg and sperm meet, but the zygote does not implant properly in the uterine wall. Therefore it does not develop. The hCG level will increase some, but then will drop to nothing once nothing develops.

A chemical pregnancy is a miscarriage that happens within a week or so of the due menstrual period. I have read that as many as 8 out of 10 women have either experienced one or will experience one in their lifetime. A lot of times, these early miscarriages are overlooked as a heavy menstrual bleeding and or a period that lasts a little longer than usual. The reason I am writing about this in the Trying To Conceive section is that chemical pregnancies are fairly common and many times a woman on this journey will discover that she has indeed experienced an early miscarriage.

"A chemical pregnancy is the clinical term used for a very early miscarriage. In many cases, the positive pregnancy test was achieved before the woman's period was due but a miscarrige occured before a heartbeat was able to be seen on an ultrasound.

With the ultra sensitive pregnancy tests on the market today, it is easier than ever to get a positive result 3 or 4 days before your period is due. It is wonderful for those who NEED to know, but does have it's down side. Early testing shows chemical pregnancies which would not have been detected had the woman waited for her period to arrive.

Chemical pregnancies are unfortunately very common. 50 to 60% of first pregnancies end in miscarriage very early in pregnancy. Most occur without the woman even knowing that she was pregnant."

It is a very early pragnancy loss......
A chemical pregnancy refers to pregnancy loss very early on. In a chemical pregnancy, it is thought that an egg is fertilized but fails to implant. As a result, your body does not begin to produce the obvious signs of pregnancy. Because a chemical pregnancy occurs so early in a pregnancy, most women never even realize they are pregnant. When they receive their period, they just assume they were a few days late.

I had a chemical pregnancy during my last cycle. We had only been trying for our first child for a few months- took the early test, it was positive... faint but positive. So I bought another brand and it also was positive. They say there are no false positives, only false negatives...but the next day (6 weeks into my cycle) I started my period. Sounds like a chemical pregnancy from what I've been reading.

My best friend told me today that she is pregnant.. only 2 weeks along. AND- it was their first month of trying!! I am realizing now that there is a significant amount of emotion involved in this whole TTC thing. While I am genuinely happy for her I am quite sad at the same time. I feel selfish, but I wish it was me. And I don't want to stress my husband out any more than he is, so I'm trying not to let him know how badly upset I am. Does that make sense?
