Some women want to keep their own names anymore, has to do with identifying themselves. Personally if I loved someone enough to marry him I would take his name and if we had kids we would all have the same name.........

I think there are a number of reasons. I can only speak for myself. I love my husband's last name. I love the idea of tradition and all of us having the same family name, but do you know what a pain in the a** it is to get ALL your stuff legally changed??! We're talking about dealing with the DMV (which is already a pain), the IRS, passport, credit cards, student loans, unions, bank statements, etc., etc. I'm getting overwhelmed just writing about it...

I chalk mine up to laziness :-)

Because she loses her identity when she takes your last name. Remember...she knows herself to be that name for years and now suddenly it is supposed to be different. It's like giving up an old friend...the person that she was, so to speak. It takes time. Have people call her Mrs.______ when they call for fun. She'll get used to hearing it. Your last name will eventually become the family's name and she'll stand by it.

It is hard to say, I had seen a mixture working in a place that has to do with name changes, I have seen hypenated names, changing to the husband's surname and remaining with your own surname.

It really depends on the women on what she wants. I will change my name to husband's any day because that is what he wants.

Did you talk to this lady - if you married her and it is affecting you on her not changing her name to your's?

What, do you think all women should change to their husband's name? This is skipped because:

a) She likes her maiden name better.
b) She doesn't want to be labeled as "Mrs. ___________." She prefers to be "Ms. ___________."

If I ever got married (yarite), I would change my last name — to my grandmother's maiden name, as I'm already planning to do. The name is just that cool.

My wife wanted to keep her last name to preserve identity. She had accumulated a lot of assets with her maiden name, and thought that by so she could keep me from being liable to them.

Some like to keep their independence, and their own identity. They don't want to feel the man "owns" them, by her 'taking' his name. It's part of womens liberation. A good part.
