and yes it is a big problem! because i couldn't get the baby out had an emergency episiotomy and the first 3 minutes of my babies life were spent with 3 midwives trying to resusitate him, if the correct size was known i wouldn't have had these complications as i would have been able to have a c section. If i'd have had him at home it could have been fatal.

Targeting midwives here is a bit unfair. Being a midwife has nothing to do with a wrong guess. Doctors never get it right either. It's only a guess. Hell, it is hard enough to take a guess at a baby's weight when they are right there in the flesh, so how is one supposed to accurately guess how much a baby weighs when in the womb? Midwives rock!
Again, people keep calling it a mistake...there is no mistake. Can you guess how many pennies are in a random jar. It is not a science, instead, it is simply a guestimate. Is it that hard to understand. It doesn't matter how much shiny equipment or how big a facility is.

Yes, I was told he was under 6lb and came out at 8lb1oz.Was told my daughter would be roughly 7 and half lb's baby and she 9lb2oz. Although my midwife said afterwards that if she new that baby was going to be a big one she still wouldn't tell because some women freak at the idea of parting with such a huge baby, personally I found the bigger the baby the easier the delivery and I've had 4 babies.

when i went for a check up at 37 weeks they said they couldn't find the heart beat , but when they did a scan everything was fine thankfully.
the midwife told me that i was looking at having a 5lb baby in a few weeks, my waters then broke on the way home from this check up.
my soon was born in the early hours of the next morning and weighed in at 7lb exactly. i am no expert but you can't tell me that he put on over 2lbs in less than 24 hrs !!!
my 2nd son was meant to be tiny and even when i went into labour a week over due they were still saying it was a small baby, he was 9lb 5oz. that is not a small baby !!!!

Yup. My daughter is really tiny, and the midwives didn't take into account that the size of her baby might be too big for her to deliver. In the end she had every procedure done, then an emergency section, just in time.

midwives are not the ones who do scans and measure the baby. the midwife measures from the top of your womb down and this gives them an estimation of the weight, it is the sonographers who get it wrong mostly because they should be-able to take exact measurements of the baby. sos don't blame midwives they do a fantastic job and your baby would not be here if it wasn't for those midwives, what has weight got to do with it, as long as your baby is healthy

When I was pregnant with my son the doctor told me from the time I was about 6 months that he was going to be huge. Toward the end she told me like three times that i was looking at having a 12 pound baby. My Xhander was only 6 1/2 pounds.

It seems somewhat around that must be from being premie. a larger toddler could have had greater rigidity on the top while coming down and out. i does no longer subject approximately what she reported, and somewhat does no longer make a grievance. It sounds like she replaced into saying it as a rely of actuality, no longer out of an attempt to be mean. He nevertheless seems time-honored, yet a midwife who watches toddlers being born all of the time is going to nicely known specific characteristics that maximum folk does no longer be conscious in any respect. Be grateful that the only "subject" you have is that he could have a head that's formed slightly in a distinctive way than maximum folk yet seems time-honored to maximum folk.

When I had my first child, I was so big that I waddled when I walked and he weighed 7lb 8 oz but when my third child was born, he weighed 8lb 14oz and the week before he was born, I only looked about 4months pregnant and everyone expected me to have a small baby, what a shock we all got.
