Not sure if Texas any different but most states unemployment can be filed for, if you were fired or let go assuming you weren't written up for the offense they let you go for at least twice. Most states say they have to give you 1 verbal and 2 written notices to get out of paying unemployment on you. However, keep in mind that unemployment goes by quarters so if you started work there in January but were let go in Feb or March then you likely won't be in the right quarter to claim anything. If you worked there for 6 or more months then you should be good. Also, some states have some special offers for mass layoffs of 50 or more employees, so if that is the case you may also be entitled to some job training in another field.

If they fire you are let you go,you can go to the unemployment office and put in for unemployment...You will have to make a few contacts each week or month ,like calling on the phone or writing down the places you ask for jobs at,and when you start drawing your unemployment you will have to show them so many jobs you have ask about.they ill give you your unemplyment but they will want you to be looking for a job while you are drawing it....some people just call on the phone and ask if they are hiring and write down who you called.................

Go apply
If you quit - you aren't.
If they fired you with cause and they have it documented - you aren't but go apply since you don't know if it will be ruled reasonable or if they actually documented it. Sometimes they don't even bother to answer.
If you were left go because of lack of work - You are.
