I use my hands when I wash my face. If you prefer to use a washcloth, use a fresh, clean one every day since they can harbor bacteria.

All my life I used to do that, until I realized that all that scrubbing was tearing away my skin and leaving it extra dry and abused, and that the soap has enough chemicals to dissolve away most of your soap and facial oils on contact anyway. Now, I just put the soap on my hands and rub it on my face and do a little "scrubbing" with my finger tips (not finger nails!!) and then rinse. I've noticed that during the winter my facial skin and hands dry up a lot faster than summer and spring, so, I adjust a bit here and there for the time of year. Also, your age has a lot to do with it, since younger skin is much more elastic and able to produce more body oils and can tolerate, and sometimes even seem to "require" some scrubbing. Again, though, we're talking about your face here, not your arms and legs and torso. Also, what soap you use and what you use to scrub with is important. A harsh soap with harsh scrubbing will leave you needing to go to the dermatologist. Moderation is the key here. And I'm surprised at reading all the women's answers here since untold billions of dollars has been spent on how to be "gentle" with their faces. They aren't telling you what they're using to scrub with, either in soap or in rag or whatever, so, pay attention to details. Your question is not as simple as it may seem, and neither are the answers, unless somebody's not giving you the time to really listen to what you're saying and how many options there are. I'm not suggesting you be a "sissy" about it all, but then I wouldn't recommend Lava soap and sandpaper either. God Bless you. And now that I finished my answer and submitted it, I read girly's answer, and that's EXACTLY what I'm saying. God Bless you, again.

If you don't wash your face, you don't get the dirt off as well. Dirt means clogged pores, which means you will get pimples more often. So in short, yes you should probably scrub your face.

Scrubbing is very bad for your face, and many soaps cause breakouts.

no soap will give you spots, wash with a facecloth and a face scrub , you buy them in bottles and they will downsize your pores, remove dirt and kill bacteria
