how do i know if i have high speed internet

press "ctrl=alt=delete"
click on networking
where it says Link speed
is the speed of your connection
mine says 12Mbps which is a cable connection
for comparison a dial-up connection would say 56Kbps

go to www.pcpitstop.com and run a system diagnostic, it will, among other things, run a ping time test to tell you what the speed you have from one computer to another. it's free just don't click on any of the sidebar ads that are there they are basically worthless (hey, they got the right to make a little money for providing a free service ).

do you hear a dial tone when you are logging into the internet? If not then you have high speed.

try to test the internet speed via some online tools...
